Philosophy
Sunny Days whanau/teachers philosophy statement is:
To provide an environment that is nurturing, friendly, safe and secure for children and their families/whanau.
To provide a holistic programme that offers routines which are flexible; experiences which are varied and challenging and offers opportunities for exploration and learning. Our planning is based on teachers understanding and acknowledging, the strengths and interests of each child and what they need adults to do or provide next, to extend and enhance their learning and development.
To acknowledge each child as being unique and individual in an environment where they have fun while developing life skills, self-esteem, communication skills, a sense of belonging and an understanding of limits and boundaries.
To encourage children to develop in their own individual way whilst contributing to the ethos of the Centre.
To have teachers who are dedicated and who work as a team; role models who accept individual strengths and differences while learning from and supporting each other. Teachers will provide continuity and consistency in their expectations of and behaviours with children, encouraging them to make choices, try new things, and grow in their thinking and learning. Teachers will be involved in professional development.
To acknowledge that families/whanau know their children best and are respected for their personal beliefs and cultures. We believe that the Centre environment has to be inviting of parent/whanau involvement acknowledging different cultures of the families attending the Centre. Also enabling children’s learning and developing in ways that are meaningful in their own culture.
